A small, unassuming piece of material sitting at the base of a guitar or bass’ headstock and the top of the fretboard, the nut is critical to getting the best performance out of your instrument. Nuts are typically made out of bone. The slots are proportionally-spaced, using the same method as our String Spacing Rule. This means the strings feel right all across the neck—no crowding on the heavier bass strings.
